The government will soon make a decision to relieve Inesa Schmitina of her duties as the director of the State Social Insurance Agency (GASS / VSAA) due to reaching retirement age, according to a draft order prepared by the Ministry of Welfare, LETA reports.

According to the Civil Service Law, civil service relations terminate upon reaching the state-established retirement age of 65 years.

The Ministry of Welfare is asking the Cabinet of Ministers to make the appropriate decision to terminate the employment relationship with Schmitina on January 5 of the next year.

According to the Civil Service Law, the Minister of Welfare makes the decision to relieve the head of a subordinate institution from duty based on the decision of the Cabinet of Ministers.

The annotation states that Schmitina has been acting as the director of the VSAA since 2000, and her term has been extended multiple times.

By the decision of the Ministry of Welfare on June 15, 2020, her term was extended until December 30 of this year, and by the decision of June 12, 2025, until reaching retirement age on January 5, 2026.

As previously reported, the competition commission decided to allow three out of 15 candidates who submitted their applications to proceed to the second stage of the competition for the position of director of the VSAA, the State Chancellery informed the LETA agency.

The selection of candidates in the competition will take place in three stages.

In the second stage of the competition, candidates will explain to the commission their motivation for taking this position, answer the commission's questions, and present their vision for the development directions of the VSAA for the next five years, including priorities and strategic goals.

In the third stage of the competition, the managerial competence of candidates will be assessed — strategic thinking, team management, change management, results orientation, decision-making ability, and accountability.

Based on the results of the competition, the candidate or candidates who receive the highest score will be recommended to the Minister of Welfare. After the Cabinet of Ministers approves the candidate, the director of the VSAA is appointed by the Minister of Welfare.
