The anniversary of the proclamation of the Latvian Republic on November 18 will be celebrated in the capital with concerts at the Freedom Monument and in cultural centers, the Rīga City Council informed the LETA agency.
As the municipality notes, this year also marks the 90th anniversary of the Freedom Monument, which was unveiled on November 18, 1935.
In honor of the national holiday, a ceremonial event and festive concert "Heritage" will take place at Freedom Square at 19:00, featuring well-known Latvian performers.
At 20:00, President Edgars Rinkēvičs will address the people of Latvia at the monument, followed by the national anthem.
After that, the celebration in the capital will continue with a laser, sound, and light show until 23:00.
On November 18, the VEF Culture Palace will host a concert "Sound Patterns of Latvia" featuring the "Rīga" orchestra and soloists, while the "Iļģuciems" cultural center will present a festive concert "Latvian Classics and Modernity" with soloists from the Latvian National Opera, Inga Šļubovska-Kanceviča and Rihards Mačanovskis.
The Small Guild invites you to the concert "You are My Land. You are My Latvia" on November 18, the "Imanta" cultural center will hold a festive concert "Inspired by Latvia," the Riga Jugendstil Center will feature a concert "Music for Latvia," and the concert hall "Ave Sol" will host the folk group "Vilkači."
