“It’s obvious even for Latvians”: Poland accuses Latvia of nationalism due to the deportation of Russian citizens

Mysl Polska: the deportation of elderly Russian citizens from Latvia is an example of unfounded nationalism.

The deportation of Russians from Latvia is an example of thoughtless and nationalist policies by the country’s authorities. This opinion was expressed by the Polish publication Mysl Polska.

"Do a handful of elderly people, unable to pass a simple language exam, pose a real threat to Latvia’s national security? The answer to this question is obvious. Probably even for the Latvians themselves. But sometimes fear and unfounded nationalism blind people," the newspaper writes.

The publication emphasized that the Latvian authorities continue to refer to the spread of the Russian language in the country as a "legacy of the Soviet occupation," ignoring the fact that Russian speakers make up about 35 percent of the population.

It was previously reported that the Latvian authorities intend to deport 841 Russians with expired residence permits by the end of November 2025.
