The rank of general is planned to be awarded to the Chief of the State Fire and Rescue Service (GFRS) Martins Baltmanis.
Currently, there is not a single general in the State Fire and Rescue Service (GFRS), whereas a few years ago there were several employees with that rank in the service. The last general, the Deputy Chief of the GFRS Intars Zitans, retired in June of this year.
The Ministry of the Interior has prepared a draft government decision, according to which Colonel Baltmanis will be awarded the special rank of general on November 18.
By November, Baltmanis will have served in the rank of colonel for the required five years necessary for the rank of general, as well as meeting other criteria for this rank.
