As reported by the LETA agency, the president's advisor on communication, Mārtiņš Drēgeris, stated that according to the Constitution of the Republic of Latvia, the president will carefully evaluate the law adopted by the Saeima regarding the withdrawal from the convention, taking into account state and legal considerations rather than ideological or political ones.
The president will announce his decision separately.
As reported, on Thursday, with the votes of the opposition and the Union of Greens and Farmers (ZZS), the Saeima adopted a law on Latvia's withdrawal from the Council of Europe Convention on Preventing and Combating Violence Against Women and Domestic Violence, or the Istanbul Convention.
