The “gray cardinal” Jaunups, as well-informed political journalist Agnese Margeviča writes in Diena, may be behind the widely publicized statement by director Alvis Hermanis about the formation of the infamous party of non-partisans. At one time, Edgars Jaunups was a member of the Saeima from “New Era,” then he served in “Development of Latvia,” but he did not succeed in returning to big politics.
Another organizer of the new party, Armands Broks, does not hide: “I know Edgars...” He is also familiar with the scandalously known businessman Maris Martinsons, who likes to hold business meetings in an expensive restaurant in Vecārija. The topic that Mr. Martinsons, “a friend of politicians,” is currently promoting is real estate in Spain.
In connection with the emerging party, Diena also points out former Minister of Health, Education, and Science Anda Čakša, who had a falling out with “New Unity,” as well as former Minister of Finance and Minister of Economics Dana Reizniece. “Dana is a very smart girl,” A. Broks says of the 44-year-old lady. Meanwhile, Diena reminds that “D. Reizniece is currently the Executive Director of the International Chess Federation, a position she obtained thanks to the support of former Russian Deputy Prime Minister Arkady Dvorkovich.”
