From October 15 to 17, a visit to Latvia by Members of the European Parliament will take place, focusing on security, defense, and technological development, during which special attention will be paid to strengthening NATO's eastern flank and innovations in the field of unmanned systems, as reported by the office of MEP Reinis Pozņaks.
On the first day of the visit at 15:00, a seminar on the development of the drone industry in Latvia and Europe will take place at the European Union House in Riga (Aspazijas Boulevard, 28), where a draft report on drones prepared by the European Parliament will be presented and discussions on the potential of this sector in defense and civilian areas will be held.
Representatives from more than 30 companies and industry associations, as well as the ministries of defense and foreign affairs, and the relevant Saeima committees have confirmed their participation in the seminar.
The visit will include Members of the European Parliament Reinis Pozņaks (United List), Robert Zile (National Alliance), Sandra Kalniete (New Unity), Cristian Terhes from Romania, and Petras Auštrevičius from Lithuania. The delegation will also include advisors to the members of the European Parliament's Committee on Security and Defense and heads of offices of several members.
During the visit, the members will also visit the Competence Center for Autonomous Systems and the military training ground in Ādaži, where drone systems will be demonstrated and discussions on the development of defense infrastructure will take place. The delegation will familiarize itself with the situation at the eastern border, and at the end of the visit, will meet with the management of Riga Airport to discuss drone monitoring systems in Latvia's airspace.
