The Progressive party has accepted the decision of Elina Pinto to leave, who was the party's candidate in the last presidential elections, the party reported.
The political force reports that on Monday the Progressives received Pinto's statement about her departure from the party. The Progressives note that they respectfully accept this decision and express gratitude to Pinto for her significant contribution to the development and representation of the party both in Latvia and internationally.
In her social media post, Pinto explains that this decision was neither sudden nor easy. "I made it after weighing human values as well as the party's development directions, including in the regions of Latvia," Pinto states.
She expresses gratitude to the party members for the experience gained, noting that the most valuable for her was the support she received during this time from people across Latvia and beyond. "This strengthened my conviction that work must continue outside the party for a more humane, green, honest, European, and safe Latvia," Pinto says.
As Pinto told the LETA agency, she will continue "work close to her heart, in Latvia and for the benefit of Latvia, regardless of party affiliation."
Pinto has been a member of the party's board and an authorized representative in the European Green Party since 2024. According to the Progressives, her professional experience, international understanding, and active participation in shaping the party's policies helped strengthen the visibility and voice of the Progressives in Europe.
As previously reported, Pinto was the candidate from the Progressives in the last presidential elections and also the leader of the Progressives' list in the 2024 European Parliament elections, but she was not elected.
