The Saeima Commission Will Discuss the Results of the «Namejs 2025» Exercises

At the subcommittee meeting on comprehensive national defense of the Commission on Defense, Internal Affairs, and Corruption Prevention of the Saeima on Tuesday, October 14, it is planned to discuss the results of the 'Namejs 2025' exercises, according to the agenda of the subcommittee meeting.

At the subcommittee meeting, which will begin at 13:00, it is planned to discuss the participation and practical readiness of the state, local governments, and other civil institutions in the exercises, as well as the results achieved and challenges faced within the framework of comprehensive national defense.

Representatives from the Ministry of Defense, the Ministry of the Interior, the Latvian Association of Local Governments, and the Prime Minister's Advisor on National Security have been invited to the meeting.

In early October, the comprehensive national defense exercises 'Namejs 2025', organized by the National Armed Forces (NAF), were completed, involving about 12,000 Latvian and allied military personnel and reservists.

The exercises, which began on September 2, included soldiers and reservists from all NAF units, including national defense service members, reserve soldiers, and military personnel from allied armed forces.

During the exercises, interaction with the Crisis Center and the Civil Protection Operational Center was practiced, including with the State Chancellery and sectoral ministries, their subordinate institutions, security authorities, several municipalities, and commercial organizations, providing necessary support for national defense, thereby strengthening the comprehensive national defense system in Latvia.

The exercises were organized in cooperation with the NATO Multinational Division Headquarters 'North'. Soldiers from the United States, Estonia, and Lithuania, the NATO Multinational Brigade Headquarters in Latvia, the NATO Force Integration Unit in Latvia, and the Canadian Armed Forces Command in Latvia will participate.

During the exercises, the NAF closely collaborated with the Joint Expeditionary Force (JEF) to ensure timely monitoring of the situation, implement deterrent measures, and enhance overall response capabilities in the Baltic region. This cooperation confirms the unity and readiness of JEF member countries to act promptly in the event of a threat and contributes to mutual compatibility and the improvement of operational procedures, notes the NAF.

The goal of the comprehensive national defense system is to promote the establishment of a planning, coordination, and partnership system among government institutions, as well as the private sector, non-governmental organizations, and the population in performing functions that are vital for the state. The practical task of the comprehensive national defense system is to define specific tasks and the role of each government institution in ensuring national defense, emphasizes the NAF.

The 'Namejs' exercises have been planned in advance and have been conducted throughout Latvia since 2014.
