When preparing the state budget for the next year, it is necessary to consider the possibility of reducing salaries in the public sector, stated on the TV24 channel a member of the Saeima from the Union of Greens and Farmers (UGF), former Minister of Transport and Welfare Uldis Augulis.
Augulis explained that in addition to the salary in this sector, there are also bonuses and various types of allowances. In his opinion, this is what should be reduced, as salaries in the public sector have significantly increased over the past five years.
"If we look at individual segments, it turns out that we receive our salaries here, but live at a level of income higher than in Germany. There are specific industries in which salaries in Germany, in percentage terms to the gross domestic product, are significantly lower. Of course, one cannot directly compare overall figures with Germany or Scandinavian countries, but in the public sector, salaries are currently higher than in the private sector," noted the former minister.
"Therefore, in my opinion, there are still opportunities to reduce expenses in the public sector," summarized Augulis.
