Latvian Deputies Agree to Publicly Trim Their Income

Interestingly, today the deputies of the Saeima, including the ruling ones, did not object to passing the initiative of the opposition United List to reduce the amount of state subsidies for parties to the Saeima committee.

"United" proposes that when calculating state subsidies for parties from 2026 to 2030 inclusive, the minimum wage in the country in 2023 should be used as the basis.

It should be noted that currently, the amount of state subsidies is "tied" to the minimum wage on the day the payments are made – the higher it is in the country, the larger the subsidies for parties that received at least 2% of the votes in the last parliamentary elections.

According to the authors of the bill, linking subsidies to a frozen minimum wage will save the budget 1.6 million euros annually.

Now the main thing is that this cost-saving idea is not buried in the committees of the Saeima.
