The UK, along with other NATO allies, is ready to defend the territory of Latvia and any other NATO member state, emphasized the UK Ambassador to Latvia, Katie Leach, at a press conference dedicated to the largest international exercises of the Joint Response Forces group "Tarassis".
She emphasized that the British Embassy in Latvia works daily on security issues that are currently prioritized, adding that the UK has always been an ally of Latvia. Cooperation between the two countries began over 100 years ago when the UK supported Latvia in its struggle for independence.
The ambassador is convinced that the current security challenges mean NATO must be more united than ever and be able to respond to any challenge.
Representatives of the British Army stated that the goal of the exercises is to expand cooperation between the allied and Latvian armies, as well as to conduct training in various types of terrain, including forests.
This is also a great opportunity to master new skills and tactics, including based on Ukraine's experience in the war with Russia.
Colonel Gunars Grikmanis, a representative of the National Armed Forces, stated that the exercises will be a significant support for the Latvian army, adding that during these days, residents of Latvia will see military equipment moving on the streets, but this should not cause concern.
It has already been reported that in September and October, exercises of the Joint Response Forces "Tarassis" will take place in Latvia, mainly in Kurzeme.
