The President of the Parliament, at the initiative of the opposition, called a second extraordinary plenary session.
Today, things did not go well in the Saeima... First, let us remind you that the ruling party refused to make "concessions" to the opposition and remove two bills from the agenda of the next plenary session within the framework of the so-called "green course." In retaliation, the opposition, taking advantage of the absence of four coalition deputies, disrupted the quorum. The Speaker of the Saeima, Daiga Mierina, was forced to interrupt the next plenary session. Soon, 34 signatures from deputies were gathered to propose calling an extraordinary session today to consider a politically important document in its final reading - the bill on creating infrastructure against mobility. Let us remind you: the bill is intended to create a legal basis for establishing a Baltic defense line along and near the borders with the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus. After an hour of debate, the bill was adopted! Then, opposition deputies decided to gather 34 signatures to call a second extraordinary session today - to consider the majority of the agenda of that next session, which was disrupted by the opposition itself at 9:30 AM. The deputies seemed to be in such a hurry that, when submitting the application for the extraordinary session, they "forgot" to remove the bill on mobility from the agenda of the next session, which had already been ADOPTED TODAY. The presidium of the Saeima also did not notice the mistake and proclaimed the agenda with the bill that had already been adopted in an urgent manner!
It is evident that a governmental crisis or even, if you will, a political crisis is brewing in the country.
