The ruling party is 'chronically' short of votes.

Let us remind you that today the agenda of the plenary session of the Saeima was very busy - alongside a number of bills, including those with urgent status, the consideration of several high-profile opposition initiatives was planned, including a vote of no confidence in Prime Minister Evika Silina. In addition, there were also a couple of controversial bills from the previous plenary session within the framework of 'green policy.' Since these 'green' bills - in particular, the 'On Pollution' bill - had led to the opposition's walkout (disruption of the quorum) a week ago, the opposition requested to remove these bills from today's agenda altogether.

The ruling party disagreed and... immediately paid the price. The opposition once again took advantage of the absence of four ruling deputies and disrupted the quorum by pulling out voting cards. As a result, only 46 deputies out of 100 voted on the bill.

The session had to be interrupted or rather - canceled.

However, to avoid accusations of an 'anti-state' approach, the necessary 34 signatures were quickly gathered to consider the bill on creating anti-mobility infrastructure at the eastern border during an extraordinary session of the Saeima. The law is expected to be passed within the next hour. But it is clear that the ruling party has significant problems with coalition discipline and decision-making ability.
