Latvian passenger electric trains continue to receive their own names. The latest four trains have been named "Fern", "Oak", "Dragonfly", and "Roebuck", and in total, natural names are planned to be given to all 32 new Vivi electric trains.

The company Pasažieru vilciens (PV), operating under the Vivi brand, continues the implementation of an unusual project to assign names to new passenger electric trains.

This time, four more trains have received names — "Paparde" ("Fern"), "Ozols" ("Oak"), "Spāre" ("Dragonfly"), and "Stirna" ("Roebuck").

Thus, the number of trains with their own names continues to grow.

Earlier, at the end of May, trains "Zalktis" ("Grass Snake"), "Bērzs" ("Birch"), "Mednis" ("Capercaillie"), and "Ērglis" ("Eagle") appeared on the railways of Latvia. Even earlier, in April, the trains "Bite" ("Bee"), "Apodziņš" ("Owl"), "Priede" ("Pine"), and "Egle" ("Spruce") received names.

The company notes that all 32 new electric trains will be named after characteristic trees, birds, animals, and natural objects of Latvia. Every month, four more trains will receive new names.

The project is being implemented in collaboration with JSC "Latvian State Forests" (LVM). As part of the cooperation, updated route maps indicating LVM's rest areas located near railway stations have also been placed in the trains.

It is important to note that the train names were not chosen randomly. They were selected by LVM specialists, aiming to reflect the diversity of Latvian nature and create an additional connection between the railway and the natural attractions of the country.

The new electric trains from the Czech manufacturer Škoda Vagonka began transporting passengers in Latvia at the end of 2023. During this time, they have gradually become the backbone of passenger rail transport in the country.

The growing interest in rail transport is also reflected in the statistics. According to PV, last year the company transported 21.3 million passengers, which is 10% more than the previous year.

The company Pasažieru vilciens was established in 2001 after the separation of domestic passenger transport from the structure of Latvijas dzelzceļš.

Now, along with modern trains, passengers are gradually receiving another feature of the Latvian railway — trains with their own names related to the country's nature.
