On Monday, in the Augšdaugava and Rēzekne regions, border guards, in cooperation with the State Police, detained three transporters of illegal migrants, reported the State Border Guard (SBG).
In the Ezernieki parish, police stopped two "Volvo" cars for inspection, driven by citizens of Lithuania and Ukraine, and in the Skrudaliena parish - a "Volkswagen" car driven by a citizen of Ukraine.
During the inspection of the vehicles, four people were found in one case, three in another, and six in the third, all without valid travel documents, visas, or residence permits, who had previously crossed the Belarusian-Latvian border illegally.
Criminal proceedings have been initiated against the transporters.
Thirteen people were returned to the border with Belarus.
On Monday, the State Border Guard (SBG) prevented 40 attempts by illegal migrants to cross the Latvian-Belarusian border.
A total of 5,741 people have been detained this year for illegal border crossing.
