In this heating season, residents will most likely have to reckon with higher tariffs for thermal energy than last year, noted economist Dainis Gashpuytis on the TV24 program "Person of the Day." According to him, the main reason is the higher prices for natural gas compared to last year.

"It should be expected that already in this heating season, the tariffs for thermal energy will be higher because the price of gas is currently higher than last year," said the economist.

At the same time, he noted that the increase in tariffs may not be very sharp. Additionally, weather conditions will also play a significant role.

Gashpuytis explained that a comparatively warm winter may mean lower final bills than a cold winter with lower tariffs.

Therefore, the impact on household expenses will be determined not only by prices but also by how cold the winter months will be.

The economist added that more expensive gas, under certain conditions, may also affect electricity prices.
