Rain is expected in Latvia on Friday evening and Saturday, with thunderstorms bringing heavy downpours in some areas, forecasters predict.
Thunderstorms are possible across the country, but starting from the first half of Saturday, they are expected only in the east. The amount of precipitation in some places may exceed 30 millimeters, or 30 liters per square meter.
The Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Center has issued a yellow-level warning for thunderstorms with heavy rains and possible hail across the country.
On Saturday, starting from Kurzeme, precipitation will cease, clouds will decrease, and the sun will shine. A light to moderate west wind will blow.
The air temperature at night in Kurzeme and in the morning in the central part of the country will drop to +11...+14 degrees, while in eastern Latvia it will not be colder than +14...+17 degrees. In the afternoon, the temperature will range from +15 degrees in some areas of Vidzeme and on the coast to +22 degrees in Zemgale.
In Riga, there will be rain at times during the night, with possible heavy rain and thunderstorms; during the day, precipitation will cease and the sun will shine. The southeast wind will shift from light to moderate and will change to a west, northwest wind. The air temperature in the morning will drop to +14 degrees, and by the evening on Saturday, it will warm up to +21 degrees, while by the sea, the temperature will not exceed +17 degrees.
