Latvia and Ukraine plan to sign an agreement on cooperation in the field of drones in the near future, Latvian Prime Minister Andris Kulbergs stated at a press conference on Monday.
On Monday, the politician met with Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko. During the meeting, the parties discussed cooperation in the fields of economy and defense.
Kulbergs reported that the negotiations addressed further work on transferring Ukrainian technologies for the development of drone production. According to him, the parties concluded that there are no obstacles to signing this agreement in the near future.
The Prime Minister also noted that he received confirmation from Svyrydenko that Ukrainian specialists with the most experience in detecting, intercepting, and neutralizing drones will arrive in Latvia in the coming weeks.
According to Kulbergs, the agreement will cover issues of expertise exchange, technologies, joint production, as well as the creation of a so-called "green corridor." The document also provides for the maintenance of Latvian support for Ukraine at 0.5% of GDP and the participation of Ukrainian experts in strengthening Latvia's defense capabilities.
Svyrydenko, for her part, emphasized Ukraine's readiness to send its specialists to enhance Latvia's capabilities to counter threats from drones.
