Today, the Riga Bike Marathon Toyota will take place in the capital of Latvia, so drivers, public transport passengers, and pedestrians should take into account the restrictions in the city center and on certain sections of Pardaugava in advance.
Some restrictions began to take effect yesterday. Today, traffic on several streets will be closed as the races are conducted.
Where the pedals are turning
From 11:15 to 12:25, a sports criterium will take place. The race route: November 11th promenade, Stone Bridge, Kugu Street, Triadibas Street, Rankya Dambis, Balasta Dambis, Cable Bridge, Pilss Square, Tornya Street, back to Pilss Square, Muitaas Street, and November 11th promenade, where the finish will be.
Later, several more races will take place: from 12:40 to 13:10 - women's sports race, from 12:45 to 14:15 - family race, and from 14:40 to 15:55 - public race.
Their route will go along November 11th promenade, General Radzins promenade, Krasta Street, across the South Bridge, then along Bauskas Street, Mukusalas Street, the interchange on Mukusalas Street, the Stone Bridge tunnel, Kugu Street, Triadibas Street, Rankya Dambis, Balasta Dambis, Cable Bridge, Pilss Square, Tornya Street, Muitaas Street, and back to the finish at November 11th promenade.
Where stopping and parking are prohibited
Until 19:30 today, stopping and parking of vehicles are prohibited on both sides of November 11th promenade in the section from Stone Bridge to Muitaas Street.
The ban also applies to the parallel street adjacent to November 11th promenade from the side of Old Riga - in the section between Biskapa and Polu passages.
Until 17:00 today, stopping and standing are not allowed on Balasta Dambis and Kugu Street from the side of the Daugava.
Which streets will be closed
Until 19:30, traffic will be closed on November 11th promenade in the section from Stone Bridge to Muitaas Street, as well as on the parallel street from the side of Old Riga between Biskapa and Polu passages.
From 11:00 to 12:00, traffic will be closed on Stone Bridge in the direction of Pardaugava, on Kugu Street, Triadibas Street, Rankya Dambis, Balasta Dambis, and on Cable Bridge. On Rankya Dambis, two-way traffic will be organized on the opposite lane, and on Cable Bridge, public transport will be provided in the left lane.
From 12:30 to 16:15, traffic will be closed on November 11th promenade, General Radzins promenade, and Krasta Street in the direction and in the section from Stone Bridge to South Bridge.
From 12:30 to 16:30, traffic will be closed on South Bridge in the direction of Pardaugava - from the exit from Krasta Street to Bauskas Street.
From 12:30 to 17:00, traffic will be closed on Bauskas Street in the section from the South Bridge roundabout to Mukusalas Street, on Mukusalas Street from Bauskas Street to Stone Bridge, at the Mukusalas Street interchange under the Island Bridge, in the Stone Bridge tunnel, on Kugu Street, Triadibas Street, Rankya Dambis, Balasta Dambis, and on Cable Bridge.
What else will change
Today, traffic lights will be turned off on November 11th promenade. Until 19:30, the area for micro-mobility vehicles on November 11th promenade will also be closed.
Due to the bike marathon, changes in public transport movement are expected, so it is better to check current routes and schedules in advance before traveling.
