Minister of Welfare Reinis Uzulnieks promises to increase the state family allowance for one child from the current 25 euros to 50 euros, and for two children from the current 50 euros per child to 65 euros per child.
As reported by the advisor to the minister, Dace Gulbe, the increase in the state family allowance is one of the three priorities of the Ministry of Welfare in the work of the new government. The other priorities proposed by Uzulnieks are the introduction of a basic pension and the expansion of the status of 'Honorary Family'.
Gulbe stated that the Ministry of Welfare has calculated the necessary amount for the proposed increase in state family allowances. However, the Ministry does not want to publicly disclose this amount yet, as negotiations and discussions on this proposal are still to take place in the government.
Starting from 2028, a mechanism for regular review of the allowance may be introduced depending on the economic situation, and payments may begin from the moment of the child's birth.
At the same time, the Ministry of Welfare will promote a solution to include the time of parental leave in the employment record for parents who cared for children during the period from 1991 to 1995, when social contributions were not paid.
