In several regions of Latgale, a possible threat to airspace was announced again on Wednesday morning. This is the second consecutive day that residents have received such warnings amid incidents involving drones in the Baltic region.

Residents of the Kraslava, Ludza, and Rezekne regions received warnings about a possible threat to airspace again on Wednesday morning. The information appeared on the portal "112.lv".

This is the second such case in the last 24 hours. On Tuesday, warnings were issued via the mobile alert system to residents of several regions in Latgale and Vidzeme.

Against the backdrop of rising tensions in the region, it became known that NATO forces neutralized a drone over Estonian territory on Tuesday.

Estonian Defense Minister Hanno Pevkur reported that the drone was shot down as part of NATO's mission to patrol the airspace of the Baltic states.

The operation involved Romanian F-16 fighter jets stationed in Lithuania. According to the National Armed Forces of Latvia, the Latvian Air Force's Control and Warning Center coordinated NATO aviation actions during the operation.

The drone was intercepted and neutralized south of the Estonian city of Põltsamaa. Before the operation, the target was visually identified, and special attention was paid to the safety of residents.

Importantly, Latvian authorities have not yet confirmed what specifically caused the new warnings in Latgale. However, in recent weeks, incidents related to drones and possible air threats have been increasingly recorded in the region.

On Tuesday, warnings about a possible threat covered the largest area ever — several regions of Latvia at once. At that time, residents reported disruptions in their daily lives, and authorities began discussing changes to the response algorithms for such situations.

In light of the increased incidents, the Baltic states and NATO are strengthening airspace control and coordination of air defense systems.

So far, there has been no official information about a specific threat or the intrusion of a drone into Latvian airspace. However, security services continue to monitor the situation.
