The State Blood Donor Center has reported a shortage of several blood types and urged the residents of Latvia to respond urgently. Donors with blood types 0-, A+, B+, and A- are especially needed.
The State Blood Donor Center (VADC) has reported an urgent need to replenish blood supplies of several types.
Currently, donors with blood types 0-, A+, B+, and A- are especially needed.
The service reminds that each blood donation can be vital for hospital patients, including those after serious surgeries, injuries, or in the treatment of severe illnesses.
Blood can be donated at both permanent donation sites across Latvia and at mobile events that take place almost every week.
On Wednesday, mobile donation points will operate in several locations. In the morning, blood can be donated at the Culture House of Vīlāni, while in Riga, a specialized bus will be located at "Rimi Olimpiskais centrs" and near the company "Attēls R" on Mašīnu Street.
On Thursday, mobile events will take place in Līvāni, Koknese, and at the "Akropole" shopping center in Riga.
On Friday, the specialized bus will accept donors near the Jelgava Clinic and the Traumatology and Orthopedics Hospital in the capital.
What is important to know: during periods of blood shortages, donors with a negative Rh factor are particularly important, as this blood is harder to replace in emergency situations.
Permanent blood donation sites operate in Riga, Daugavpils, Liepāja, Jelgava, Valmiera, and Rēzekne.
In the capital, donors are accepted at 9 Selpils Street, as well as at the "Gaiļezers" and "Sakta" points.
VADC emphasizes that the need for donor blood remains constant, as blood components have a limited shelf life and are used daily in hospitals across the country.
