Answers the project coordinator of the external communication department of the Riga municipality, Ineta Miglane:
- Indeed, the municipality offers residents the opportunity to rent plots for gardens, but this is not a special program. All information about the location of available plots is provided on the Riga City Council website: https://id.riga.lv/saknu-gimenes-darzi/brivo-saknu-gimenes-darzu-saraksts/
At the time of preparing the article, there were 18 available gardens offered to those interested. Additionally, there were plots available in 9 gardening associations located in different parts of Riga. The rental cost ranges from 6.45 to 67.20 euros per year, plus VAT.
Furthermore, starting in 2026, users of garden (family) plots, for whom waste collection and disposal is provided by the Property Department of the Riga municipality, will be charged a waste disposal fee of 0.165 euros (excluding VAT) per square meter of rented land area.
