Put down the textbook, pick up the shovel: Latvian schoolchildren will be offered summer jobs

“How is the situation this year regarding opportunities for schoolchildren to work during the summer holidays? A reader of bb.lv”

Answers the Deputy Head of the Development and Strategic Communication Department of the Development and Analytics Department of the State Employment Agency, Signe Bierande:

– This year, the application period (from employers) for summer jobs for schoolchildren was from February 23 to March 15. Employer activity was very high across all regions of the country: 939 applications were received. Therefore, there was no need to announce a second stage for accepting applications.

The process of evaluating the job offers proposed by employers for schoolchildren is currently ongoing. The majority of already approved jobs relate to areas such as trade, customer service, public catering, and education. The most frequently offered positions include: laborer, sales assistant, teacher's assistant, waiter, grounds maintenance worker, retail salesperson, kitchen worker, cook's assistant, seasonal worker, bistro worker.

Schoolchildren are also offered jobs that require certain qualifications. For example, project manager assistant, programmer, computer systems administrator, legal assistant, logistics specialist, and others.

The list of approved vacant jobs for schoolchildren (“Vakanto darba vietu saraksts” – “List of Vacant Jobs”) has been published and is available to schoolchildren on the NVA website in the “Darbs vasaras brīvlaikā” (“Work during Summer Holidays”) section. This list will be regularly updated according to current requests.

Electronic registration for schoolchildren to participate in the NVA summer employment program will begin on May 6 and continue until August 15. A schoolchild wishing to work needs to keep an eye on the list of available jobs, choose a suitable position, and apply – send their CV and cover letter to the employer or call the phone number provided by the employer.
