From now on, the state will fully fund teachers' salaries only in those schools that meet the criteria of the Ministry of Education and Science (MoES) regarding the number of students and class organization, the government decided on Tuesday, reports LETA.
According to new rules, 100% state funding will be provided to educational institutions that ensure a certain number of students in classes and groups of classes, as well as meet the requirements for the size and structure of the school, taking into account its location.
According to the rules, class sizes must range from 10 to 20 students. The criteria depend on the territory - in urban areas, the requirements are higher, while in rural and sparsely populated areas, class sizes may be smaller. The denser the population in the area, the higher the requirements for class size and the number of students in the class, while in rural areas, the thresholds are lower due to lower population density and greater distances.
Schools that do not meet the general criteria for objective reasons will be entitled to full state funding. This applies to schools with high accessibility risks, where the travel time to the nearest equivalent school exceeds 30 minutes. Such schools are subject to lower minimum thresholds for the number of students, and they can retain full state funding even with fewer students, explains LETA.
