Active work is underway on the renovation of the Zemitāns Bridge. The project, costing 24.2 million euros, is perceived as an important step in improving urban infrastructure, but questions arise during the inspection of the site. A local resident, passing by, noticed an unsightly picture - questionable quality of the concrete structures.
From the side of the Domina Shopping center, significant corrosion of individual elements is noticeable when passing under the bridge. According to residents, some of these defects remain unresolved. In the public Facebook group "Pļavnieki, Purvciems, Mežciems, Teika, Juga," relevant photos were published.
In discussions, residents express hope that all identified deficiencies will not simply be masked, but will actually be fully addressed as part of the reconstruction. Some Riga residents are calling on the responsible authorities to pay attention to these issues to avoid potential problems in the future.
The reconstruction of the Zemitāns Bridge began in November 2024 and is planned to be completed by autumn 2026. The total cost of the bridge reconstruction will be 24.2 million euros, of which the municipality will co-finance 3.6 million euros.
As reported by the Nasha.lv portal, a scandal recently erupted regarding the poor renovation of the promenade on Mukusalas. This has raised urgent questions about the upcoming repairs to the Cable Bridge in Riga. Residents and the opposition express concern that the contractor involved in the problems on Mukusalas may participate in the large-scale reconstruction of the bridge. It has been revealed that concrete of insufficient strength was used in the construction of the promenade on Mukusalas, raising concerns about the reliability of the future structures of the Cable Bridge.
Riga Mayor Viesturs Kleinbergs acknowledged in the TV24 program "Ziņu TOP. Rīga runā" that the blame for the poor renovation of the Mukusalas promenade lies both in the design and construction supervision, as well as on the part of the builders. According to the mayor, it is planned that the work to eliminate the defects will be completed by approximately June 1.
