On Sunday night, Latvia transitioned to daylight saving time, when the clocks were set forward by one hour.
Daylight saving time will be in effect until October 25.
Daylight saving time in Latvia was introduced in 1981. Since 1997, daylight saving time lasts from the last Sunday in March to the last Sunday in October.
In 2018, the issue of revising the current clock change regime was raised in Europe. The European Commission conducted a survey of citizens in European Union (EU) countries, during which the majority expressed the opinion that the existing system should be abolished. On September 12, 2018, the European Commission presented a draft directive to EU states, proposing the cessation of seasonal clock changes throughout the EU. Discussions on this proposal are still ongoing, and a final decision has not yet been made.
The Latvian government previously stated that the country generally supports the abandonment of seasonal clock changes.
