Last year, compared to 2022, satisfaction among residents of Jelgava with public transport slightly decreased, according to the results of a quality of life survey in nine cities (excluding Riga) conducted by the Central Statistical Bureau (CSB) in 2025, reports LETA.
According to survey data, the number of residents in Jelgava using city buses has decreased. In 2022, this was 29.3% of respondents, while last year it was 24%.
Satisfaction with city buses dropped from 58.4% to 56.4% in 2022 and 2025, respectively. Additionally, the share of respondents who indicated "completely satisfied" decreased from 29.6% to 24.4%.
Upon closer evaluation of public transport, there was also a decrease in the number of residents who believe that buses run on schedule and frequently enough. However, satisfaction with the accessibility of buses has increased, as well as the number of residents who consider public transport safe and financially accessible.
Overall, most respondents are satisfied with life in the city — 66.2% fully agree that they are satisfied, while 28.9% partially agree.
According to the CSB, 502 individual interviews were conducted in Jelgava as part of the survey.
As reported, according to the survey results, the highest proportion of residents satisfied with the quality of life in their city is in Valmiera, while satisfaction has also increased in Jelgava and Daugavpils.
The study conducted by the CSB shows that 96.8% of surveyed city residents are satisfied with life in their city.
Satisfaction among city residents has remained consistently high since 2022, when the previous survey was conducted, notes the CSB. An increase in the proportion of satisfied residents has been recorded in Jelgava (by 1.9 percentage points) and Daugavpils (by 1.5 percentage points), while a slight decrease is observed in Jurmala (by 2.7 percentage points) and Rezekne (by two percentage points).
