This morning, icing in many places in Kurzeme, Zemgale, and parts of Vidzeme is hindering traffic on the main and regional state highways, the State Agency "Latvijas Valsts ceļi" reported to LETA, writes LETA.
Slippery sections of the roads are treated with anti-skid materials. To improve driving conditions, 60 units of winter service equipment are involved in the work.
Traffic is difficult on the main highways: on the Tallinn Highway (A1), Vidzeme Highway (A2) on the section from Riga to Augšlīgatne, Valmiera Highway (A3) on the section from Murjani to the bridge over Brasla, on the Riga ring roads (Salaspils–Baltezers, Salaspils–Babīte) (A4 and A5), Daugavpils Highway (A6) on the section from Riga to Saulēsdarzs, Bauska Highway (A7), Jelgava Highway (A8), Liepaja Highway (A9) on the sections from Kagi to Mazblīdene and from Skrunda to Kalvene, as well as Ventspils Highway (A10) on the section from Kudra to Ventspils.
On regional roads, traffic is difficult in Kurzeme and in the vicinity of Tukums, Dobele, Riga, Alūksne, and Balvi.
Drivers are urged to take weather conditions into account when planning trips, to allow extra time on the road, to choose a speed in accordance with the road surface conditions, and to maintain a safe distance.
