With the melting of snow and the ice retreating, the water level in most rivers of Latvia is gradually decreasing or fluctuating slightly, according to data from the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre (LEGMC), reports LETA.

Ice drift continues on the Daugava, with ice masses accumulating in the Pļaviņas Reservoir. Near Jēkabpils and Zeļķi, as the river frees itself from ice, the water level has temporarily decreased; however, overall, the level in the Daugava continues to rise.

In the Lielupe, the water level is beginning to slowly decrease. In the Misa, the water level continues to gradually rise, but in most rivers of the Lielupe basin, the water is receding. In Svēte at Uzini, the water level has decreased by more than half a meter over the past week.

In the Gauja and Ogre, after the ice has melted, the water level is stable with a tendency to decrease.

In most rivers of Latvia, the water level is below normal for the flood period. The snow has mostly melted, with the most remaining in places on the hills of Latgale.

In the coming days, there will be little precipitation, and the water levels in the rivers will mainly continue to decrease; however, an increase is expected in the Daugava.
