In Most Rivers, the Ice Has Already Melted

In most rivers of Latvia, the ice has already melted, according to data from the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre (LEGMC), reports LETA.

The ice cover remains only in certain areas of the rivers, and the ice is lifted, detached from the banks, and has significantly lost its strength. Ice persists in the upper reaches of the Daugava and in the Pļaviņas Reservoir.

After the ice has melted, the water level in the rivers has stabilized. This week, the water level in the rivers will mostly decrease; however, an increase in the water level is expected in the Daugava.

The water temperature in the rivers and lakes, as well as in the sea, is between 0 and +4 degrees.
