The beginning of March in Latvia was four degrees warmer than usual

The average air temperature in the first decade of the month in Latvia rose by 3.9 degrees above normal, reaching +2.7 degrees, according to information summarized by the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre.

The lowest temperature was recorded on March 8 at the Daugavpils observation station, reaching -8.4 degrees, while the highest temperature climbed to +16.4 degrees on March 10 in Mersrags. Records for warmth were broken on six out of ten days.

The average precipitation in the country at the beginning of the month was only 0.8 mm, or 6% of the average over several years. At several observation stations, the amount of precipitation did not even reach 0.1 mm, with the maximum recorded in Ruijiena at 5.8 mm.

The deepest snow cover remained in Dagda, where it decreased from 48 centimeters on the first day of the month to 25 centimeters by March 10.

The average relative humidity in the first decade of March was 79% - ranging from 75% in Riga to 86% in Liepaja.

The strongest wind gusts of 19.1 meters per second were observed on March 3 in Ventspils.
