On Thursday morning, brief rain is falling in some places in Latvia, with showers observed, and at night in Lithuania, several lightning strikes were recorded, according to meteorological information, writes LETA.
Rain clouds are moving from the southwest to the northeast, affecting Vidzeme and Zemgale more during the night.
The sky is clearing at times. In many places, there is haze, and in some areas of Latgale, there is fog. A light southern wind is blowing. The air quality is average.
At 5 a.m., according to the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre (LEGMC), the air temperature ranged from -2.1 degrees at the observation station in Daugavpils to +7.7 degrees in Liepaja and +8.3 degrees in Ainaži.
Snow remains in the forests and other shady places in parts of the country, with more snow in Selija and Southern Latgale.
In Riga, a southern wind is blowing at a speed of three to four meters per second, with an air temperature of +6 to +7 degrees.
The day will be rainy
On Thursday, brief showers are expected in some places in Latvia, and starting from the west, light rain will pass through many areas of the country, meteorologists forecast, writes LETA.
Significant precipitation is not expected in Latgale. In most parts of the country, the sun will shine, while clouds will gather from the west. Fog is expected in some areas of Kurzeme and the northwest of Vidzeme.
A light southern to southwestern wind will blow.
The air temperature in the afternoon will range from +2 to +7 degrees in Kurzeme and the northern coast of Vidzeme to +11 to +14 degrees in the eastern regions of the country.
In Riga, rain is expected at times, and in the afternoon, the sky will become overcast, with the wind shifting from the southwest and blowing moderately. The air temperature will reach +11 degrees in the middle of the day.
The weather is determined by the southeastern edge of a cyclone. The atmospheric pressure at sea level ranges from 1011 hPa in northern Kurzeme to 1019 hPa in southern Latgale.
A temperature record was broken on March 11
The maximum air temperature on Wednesday in the LEGMC observation network ranged from +7 to +8 degrees in Liepaja port and Bauska to +13.5 degrees in Mersrags. A temperature record for March 11 was broken at 11 observation stations.
The highest air temperature in Europe on March 11 was around +20 degrees in many areas of southern and central parts. The lowest air temperature on the night of Thursday was -8 to -10 degrees in high mountainous areas and -25 degrees in the northeast of the European part of Russia.
