This year, during the winter session, 53 students passed the unified state qualification exam for lawyers, which is 35% of the total number of candidates, the Ministry of Justice reported.
A total of 151 students from six universities took the exam — the Turība Business School, Daugavpils University, the University of Latvia, Riga Technical University, the Rezekne Academy, and the University of Latvia named after Stradiņš.
Of the 98 students who did not pass the exam, 28 were taking it for the first time, while 70 were retaking it.
The results of the exam can be appealed within one month.
The tests in various branches of law took place from January 13 to 27.
The exam included knowledge checks in five areas: international and European law, theory and philosophy of law and the history of law in Latvia, criminal and criminal procedural law, civil and civil procedural law, and commercial law, as well as constitutional, administrative, and administrative procedural law.
The next state unified professional qualification exam for lawyers is scheduled for the summer session.
In the last academic year, during the winter and summer sessions, a total of 302 students took the exam, of which 98 passed successfully.
