The soloist of the Latvian opera has passed away

The singer, vocal teacher, and opera soloist Lilia Greidane has died, according to a statement from the Latvian National Opera and Ballet.

Greidane was born on November 14, 1944. Her creative life was connected with the Latvian National Opera for over 30 years. The singer was distinguished by her unique voice timbre, stage charm, and ability to reveal the essence of each character she portrayed, vividly interpreting both leading and character roles.

The singer's repertoire included over 30 roles, among them Mimi, Lelde, Adriana Lecouvreur, Micaëla, Desdemona, Laimdota, Donna Anna, Elizabeth, and many others. She also participated in the performance of vocal-symphonic works and performed in chamber music.

For many years, Greidane headed the vocal department at the conservatory and was a mentor to young opera singers.

In 2007, Greidane received an award for her lifetime contribution to opera art, and in 2023, her work was recognized with the Great Music Award for lifetime achievement.
