Due to changes in the number of students, several preschool institutions and schools will have to be closed in Riga, acknowledged Riga Mayor Viesturs Kleinbergs in an interview with LTV on the "Morning Panorama" program on Wednesday, according to LETA.
The mayor did not specify which institutions would be closed, noting that the main outlines of the changes would be known by the end of the week, and a decision could be made within two weeks.
Kleinbergs mentioned that there are areas in Riga where there is a shortage of places in kindergartens, but in other institutions, they are only filled to 50–60% of their capacity.
The politician promised that if an institution is closed and a child has to change it, the conditions in the new establishment will be the same or better than in the closed one.
