The Number of Vacancies in the Ambulance Service Has Decreased

The number of vacant positions in the Emergency Medical Service (SNMP) has continued to decrease over the past 3–4 years, said the service director, Liene Cipule, in an interview for the program "900 Seconds" (TV3), according to LETA.

She acknowledged that the vacancy rate in the service still stands at around 10%, however, the overall situation is encouraging, as many employees are undergoing training to gain additional qualifications. For example, emergency medical transport drivers are obtaining qualifications as medical assistants.

"We are increasingly seeing solutions on how to organize work by forming teams of two instead of three. This allows us to create an additional network of teams," said Cipule.

"Overall, the situation has improved compared to what it was 3–4 years ago," the service director summarized.

In response to a question about how often SNMP employees had to use gas canisters for self-defense during outings, Cipule reported that there have been no such cases in the past six months. She assessed this as a result of the service's forecasts: since the introduction of body cameras, patients have begun to show more respect for SNMP employees.
