Due to the frost, classes in schools in Latvia have started to be canceled

On Monday, February 2, students have been instructed to come to schools, according to information published on the website of the Bauska municipality.

For students of municipal general education schools from grades 1 to 12, the educational process has been ordered to take place at home — with the organization of distance learning or the use of other alternative methods. It has been determined that students do not attend educational institutions in person.

Preschool educational institutions will operate as usual and accept those children whose transportation to and from the institution is the responsibility of their parents.

The order is based on a provision of the Cabinet of Ministers' regulations, which states that when the air temperature drops to -20 degrees, children under 12 years old may not attend school. If the temperature drops another five degrees — to -25, other students may also not go to school.

As reported by bb.lv, on Monday, a warning about very low air temperatures — up to minus 30 degrees — has been announced across the country.
