Unfavorable Forecast for Latvia for the Coming Days

In the coming days, air temperatures in Latvia are expected to continue to drop, meteorologists predict.

The weather will be predominantly sunny, with some cloudiness expected in the northern Kurzeme and eastern parts of the country. Light snow and frost are possible in some areas. A weak eastern wind, shifting to the north, will mainly blow.

The coldest night is expected to be on Monday, when air temperatures in many regions of Latvia may drop to -28...-33 degrees, with -30 degrees possible even in the Riga region.

Daytime temperatures will range from -10...-18 degrees, and in northern Kurzeme, it may reach -7...-10 degrees.

It is expected that during the next week, the frosts will ease, and cloudiness will increase; however, in the second half of the week, under clear skies, air temperatures at night may drop to -20 degrees in some places.

The lowest air temperature in Latvia this winter was -28.4 degrees recorded on the morning of January 30 at the meteorological station in Daugavpils. A -30 degree frost has not been recorded in Latvia since January 8, 2024, and -33 degrees was last recorded in February 2012.

According to data from the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts, the first week of February in Latvia is expected to be 8 degrees colder than normal, the second week may be 5 degrees colder than the average for 1991-2020, and the second half of the month is forecasted to be about 2 degrees colder than usual. Thus, the average air temperature for the month may be 4 degrees below normal.
