By modernizing pharmacies and ensuring effective, safe, client-oriented development of pharmaceutical care services, Mēness aptieka has invested about 50,000 euros and has already introduced self-service checkouts in five Mēness aptieka locations in Riga and Jelgava.
This innovation significantly expands the accessibility of pharmaceutical care. In such pharmacies, it will be possible to purchase medical and hygiene products, skin and hair care products, teas, and other items, while medications will always be available only with a pharmacist's consultation.
In the pharmacy environment, self-service checkouts are a unique and unprecedented solution for Latvia that will help ensure even higher quality and accessibility of pharmaceutical care, relieving pharmacists of other pharmacy-related duties and allowing them to focus more on conversations with clients and consultations.
At the new checkouts, anyone can independently or with the help of a consultant pay for various pharmacy products that are not medications, such as medical and hygiene products, skin and hair care products, teas, vitamins, and other items.
Prescription and over-the-counter medications cannot be purchased at self-service checkouts, as the purchase of these products is only possible with a pharmacist's consultation. With the introduction of new automated checkouts, pharmacies and pharmaceutical specialists will continue to operate as usual.
"Our goal is to provide high-quality pharmaceutical care at Mēness aptieka that is accessible to everyone. Therefore, we carefully analyze the daily operations in pharmacies to free pharmacists from various additional tasks beyond consulting clients.
By tracking trends in the pharmaceutical industry and experiences in other countries, we invest in and implement innovative solutions for client convenience. Pharmacists are highly qualified and accessible healthcare professionals, so we still care about optimizing their workflows, allowing them to spend more time with our clients who need consultation," says Elena Petrishina, a board member of Mēness aptieka.
Self-service checkouts are currently being introduced in those Mēness aptieka locations where there is the most intense flow of clients. This is also expected to reduce queues — if a client does not need a pharmacist's consultation, purchases can be made at the self-service checkouts. At the new checkouts, clients will be able to purchase items using cashless payment methods. When making a purchase, it will be possible to use the combined loyalty card of healthcare enterprises, Veselība, for better offers.
One of the first pharmacies where a self-service checkout is already available is in the very center of Riga, near intercity transport hubs — Mēness aptieka in the Origo shopping center. This innovation is also available in other Mēness aptieka locations in Riga — in the Bērnu pasaule shopping center, at Kr. Valdemara Street, 112 and Grostonas Street, 1, as well as in the pharmacy in Jelgava at Katolu Street, 18 in the Vivo shopping center.
By modernizing pharmacies and developing innovative solutions for the convenience of clients and employees, Mēness aptieka has also become the first in Latvia to introduce electronic price tags in several pharmacies. Continuing targeted improvements and increasing process efficiency, innovations are planned to be expanded to other Mēness aptieka locations with a larger flow of clients.
Note. Mēness aptieka has been the most beloved, quality, green, and humane pharmacy brand in Latvia for the 12th consecutive year.
