This morning, road conditions are difficult almost throughout Latvia, and in the vicinity of Saldus, they are particularly challenging, the LETA agency was informed by the company "Latvijas valsts ceļi."
After heavy snowfall, particularly difficult traffic is observed in the vicinity of Saldus — on the section of the Liepaja highway from Mazblidene to Ciecere and on the section of the Gulbene–Saldus highway in the territory of Saldus municipality.
Difficult conditions are also noted on Wednesday morning on the Tallinn highway, on the section of the Vidzeme highway from Riga to Vangazi, on the section of the Valmiera highway from Murjani to the bridge over Brasla, on the Riga bypass road, on the section of the Ventspils highway from Riga to Usma, as well as on the Bauska, Jelgava, and Liepaja highways and on the Liepaja–Rucava road.
In addition, difficult traffic is observed along the entire length of the Daugavpils highway, on the Koknese and Rezekne highways, on the Grebnevo–Rezekne–Daugavpils–Lithuania border road, as well as on the bypass roads of Daugavpils and Rezekne.
On regional roads, traffic is difficult throughout Latvia, except for the vicinity of Valmiera, Cesis, Valki, Aluksne, and Limbazi.
The streets of Riga in the early morning hours were also so covered with snow that even on Brivibas street it was difficult to distinguish the traffic lanes.
Road maintenance services urge planning extra travel time and taking into account that lesser roads may currently be difficult to pass. To improve road conditions, 134 units of equipment are involved in winter maintenance work.
