Heating expenses, uncleared roads, and snow removal: what inconveniences are residents experiencing this winter?

At the turn of the year, a real winter with severe frosts and a stable snow cover has arrived in Latvia. For some, this is a long-awaited opportunity to enjoy winter joys, while others complain about various inconveniences. A survey showed what problems residents of Latvia faced this winter, reports the program "900 seconds" (TV3).

When residents of Latvia aged 18 to 65 were asked to indicate what inconveniences the snowy and cold winter had personally caused them, the most frequently mentioned were increased heating and electricity costs (49%) and difficulties in movement due to poorly cleared sidewalks and roads (44%).

Residents also often pointed out the need to spend time on snow removal themselves (21%), as well as the fact that the cold limits outdoor activities (20%).

Additionally, respondents noted that the snowy and cold winter negatively affects their physical health (e.g., colds, other health issues) (16%), as well as their psychological and emotional well-being (14%).

13% indicated that there are delays in public transport during winter, while 12% admitted that it has become harder to start their cars in the frost.

Less frequently mentioned inconveniences included unsuitable clothing or footwear for such weather (8%) and interruptions in electricity or communication (5%).

At the same time, 16% of respondents stated that the snowy and cold winter did not cause them any inconveniences.

2% of respondents did not provide a specific answer to this question.
