Suspicious Deaths at Bauska Hospital — Doctor Dismissed

After an internal review, Bauska Hospital decided to dismiss the doctor, against whom several complaints were received at the end of last year. The doctor had previously been temporarily suspended from work after relatives of two deceased patients filed complaints against her, reports LSM.lv.

Analyzing several patient complaints and the organization of the treatment process as a whole, violations were identified on the part of the staff both in communication with patients and in ensuring treatment, reported Bauska Hospital. The employment relationship with the doctor was terminated on Wednesday, January 21.

The hospital does not disclose more detailed information about the specific violations, the progress of the employee evaluation, or individual episodes of treatment.

Latvian television previously reported that the investigation began after the deaths of two elderly individuals. They were being treated at Bauska Hospital for relatively mild illnesses, but both experienced a deterioration in their health while in the hospital. They were transferred to Jelgava Hospital, where they passed away. After relatives of the deceased patients complained about the doctor, an internal investigation was initiated, and the doctor was temporarily suspended from work.

"At the same time, we emphasize that the situation was not assessed in isolation or based on individual cases. The hospital evaluates all received complaints and aspects of quality assurance in treatment as a whole, making responsible decisions and implementing targeted improvements in treatment processes," the hospital stated.

Bauska Hospital conducted an internal review of one of its doctors. Relatives of two patients accused the doctor of poor performance, which may have resulted in the patients' deaths.

The hospital examined her work over the past seven years, assessing the examinations conducted by the doctor and the medications she chose for treatment.

The Health Inspectorate also initiated an investigation. The Inspectorate is still conducting a review of the doctor's work.
