Tuesday in Latvia had the coldest morning since January 8, 2024, according to meteorological station data.
According to the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre, the air temperature at 5 AM ranged from -10.2 degrees in Ventspils to -20.6 degrees in Mersrags, -20.9 degrees in Skriveri, and -22.4 degrees in Daugavpils and Madona.
According to "Latvijas Valsts ceļi", the strongest frost early in the morning was -21...-23 degrees in many areas of Latgale and Vidzeme, as well as in the western part of the country, including on the Liepaja highway near Anniniekas and on the Ventspils highway near Lake Usma. The lowest temperature at 5 AM was -23.2 degrees on the Daugavpils highway near the Hotel in Plavinas.
This is the strongest frost in the country since January 8, 2024, when temperatures in Latgale reached -30 degrees in some places.
A strong geomagnetic storm began late Monday evening and may continue on Tuesday. The northern lights were observed in Latvia.
