Checking information about possible violations of animal welfare requirements, the Food and Veterinary Service (PVS) seized 15 dogs and three cats from a house in the Davina municipality of the Bauska region, while the State Police delivered the bodies of two deceased dogs for examination.
During the inspection, it was found that the animals were kept in unsanitary conditions — in contaminated premises with a strong odor. They relieved themselves right where they were: some in the house, some in the garage and outbuilding.
Moreover, the animals did not receive sufficient food and drinking water.
For cruelty to animals, the Food and Veterinary Service initiated administrative proceedings, during which the animals were seized and taken to various shelters.
The circumstances surrounding the deaths of two dogs found on the property are being investigated by the State Police as part of a criminal process.
The Food and Veterinary Service is a government institution under the Ministry of Agriculture that supervises and controls the circulation of food products and veterinary medicine.
