Current frosts in Latvia will last throughout the week, forecasters warned.
This week, as atmospheric pressure rises, more stable and dry weather has settled in Latvia. The LVĢMC notes that no significant changes in the synoptic situation are expected in the new working week.
It is forecasted that at night, in some places, with the sky clearing, the thermometer will drop to −20 degrees, while during the day the sun will often peek through the clouds. During daylight hours, the air will become slightly warmer, although the temperature will remain below 0 degrees; however, in the second half of the week, the frost will begin to intensify again, resulting in nighttime temperatures dropping below −20 degrees in many places.
Monday and Tuesday will be sunny, although at times the sky will be covered with clouds. Precipitation is not expected on these days. With a light wind on Tuesday, fog will form in some areas, reducing visibility.
At night, most of the country will cool down to −13…−18 degrees, and in some places, with the sky clearing, it will become even colder — down to −20…−21 degrees; only on the coast will it be slightly warmer. During the day on Monday, the thermometer will rise to −5…−10 degrees, and on Tuesday — to −3…−8°, while the eastern regions will remain cooler.
On Wednesday, the amount of clouds will increase, with only occasional rays of sunshine breaking through. On the night of Wednesday, the wind will continue to blow weakly, so fog will form in some areas, which will persist in certain regions during the morning hours.
During the day, the wind will shift from the east and northeast and will be light to moderate. Both at night and during the day, the air temperature will remain within ranges similar to previous days, with the thermometer rising to −1…−5 degrees on the coast during the day.
In the second half of the week, under the influence of the anticyclone, a colder air mass will return to Latvia, resulting in frost intensifying again, although gusty winds and precipitation are still not expected.
On the weekend, with the sky clearing, at night and in the morning, the thermometer will again drop below −20 degrees in some places.
