Today in state and municipal institutions is a transferred working day, according to the Cabinet of Ministers' directive "On the Transfer of Working Days in 2026," reports LETA.
The working day has been moved from January 2, which was a holiday.
The Cabinet of Ministers' directive applies to state budget-funded institutions of state authority that have a five-day working week from Monday to Friday. All municipalities, businesses, and organizations are recommended to consider the corresponding transfer of the working day when establishing their work and rest schedules.
The transfer of working days has been carried out for a long time and has become a tradition over the years, which society as a whole supports and evaluates positively.
The aim of the legal regulation of the transfer of working days is to organize the work process and rest time more flexibly and efficiently. This ensures the continuity of working hours in the week that includes the transferred working day, while in another week, employees are provided with more days off that they can use at their discretion.
