Love Conquers All Ages: An 86-Year-Old Man Got Married in Tukums Region

In 2025, the oldest groom in the Tukums region who got married was 86 years old, reports LETA, citing data from the regional municipality.

In the Tukums region's civil registry office, 266 newborns were registered in 2025 — 120 girls and 146 boys. This is six children fewer than in 2024. The place of residence in the Tukums region was declared for 256 newborns.

Last year, 123 children were born to registered marriages, paternity was acknowledged in 132 cases based on a declaration, and 11 children were registered without indicating the father.

In 2025, ten families welcomed their firstborns — 15 more than in 2024. 78 families had a second child (14 fewer), 55 had a third (11 fewer), and 21 had a fourth. Seven families had a fifth child, two had a sixth, and another two had a seventh. Twins were born in two families.

The most popular female names in 2025 were Alise, Anna, Emma, Odrija, and Sofia. Among boys — Albert, Oliver, Ralph, Robert, Janis, Klavs, and Augusts. Double names were given to 31 children.

In 2025, 285 marriages were registered in the Tukums region — 23 more than the previous year. For comparison: in 2023 — 295 marriages, in 2022 — 333, in 2021 — 113, in 2020 — 135.

In the civil registry office building, 269 marriages were concluded, and another 16 couples got married in churches.

In the Tukums civil registry office, 23 foreigners registered in 2025 — citizens from 15 different countries. Among them were four brides from Ukraine, two grooms from Moldova, the Netherlands, and Germany. There were also brides from the Czech Republic, France, and Nigeria, and grooms from the USA, Chile, Denmark, Kazakhstan, Russia, Portugal, Finland, and Ukraine.

The most popular places for marriage registration outside the civil registry office were the Jaunmokas Castle and the adjacent park, coastal areas in the municipalities of Engure and Lapmezciems, Kalnmuyza in the municipality of Kandava, the Rume estate, "Villa Anna," and the Jaunpils Castle.

In 75 cases, the wives were older than their husbands, while in 185 cases, the men were older than their wives. The largest age difference when the wife was older than the husband was 20 years, and when the husband was older than the wife, it was 25 years. In 25 couples, the spouses were of the same age. The oldest groom was 86 years old, and the oldest bride was 80. The youngest groom was 19 years old, and the youngest bride was 18.

The most popular ages for women getting married were 29, 32, and 34 years, while for men, it was 30, 34, and 38 years.

In the Tukums regional civil registry office, 560 deceased individuals were registered in 2025 — 286 women and 274 men. Of these, 491 were residents of the Tukums region.

The average age of deceased women was 78.7 years, and for men, it was 69.6 years. The oldest deceased woman was 103 years old, while among men, it was 100 years old.

In 2025, 21 individuals approached the civil registry office to change their name, surname, or nationality record. In 16 cases, the surname was changed, in four cases, the first name, and in one case, the nationality record.
