Meteorologists Instilled Fear with Their Forecast for Next Week

From the second half of next week, Latvia may experience a more significant drop in temperature compared to current conditions; however, forecasts remain unstable, according to meteorological data.

At the end of this week and the beginning of next week, predominantly partly cloudy weather is expected, with no precipitation. The wind will be a weak southern breeze, which may strengthen in some areas on Saturday. Nighttime temperatures will drop to -8 to -15 degrees, and in some areas in the east of the country, down to -19 degrees; at the beginning of the new week, under clear skies, temperatures may drop to -20 degrees in some places. During the day, temperatures will not exceed -3 to -11 degrees.

Midweek, significant cloudiness is forecasted, with possible snowfall, and temperatures will temporarily rise.

In the second half of the week and in the last week of January, Latvia may experience severe frosts from the Arctic and Siberia. According to the current forecast from the Global Forecast System, during the dark hours, temperatures may drop to -25 degrees in some areas, and on the coldest days, even during the day, thermometers may not rise above -10 to -18 degrees.

According to the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts, the average temperature in Latvia for the last two weeks of January is expected to be 6-8 degrees colder than normal, and February is also predicted to be cooler than usual.

January may become the coldest month since February 2012, when the average monthly temperature in the country was -8.8 degrees, and the coldest January since 2010, when the average monthly temperature dropped to -11.5 degrees.
